Courtesy call Visit of H.E. Choi Sungho to H.E. Chhieng Yanara

Phnom Penh (August 4): H.E. Choi Sungho, Acting President of the Korea Internaitoal Cooperation Agency (KOICA) paid a courtesy call on H.E. Chhieng Yanara, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, Vice Chairman of the Supreme National Economic Council (SNEC), and Secretary General of CRDB/CDC at Palais du Gouvernement (CDC) in Phnom Penh yesterday morning.

In the meeting, H.E. Choi Sungho and H.E. Chhieng Yannara discussed the KOICA’s development cooperation activities and KOICA’s grant aid to Cambodia as well as the exchange of view on the development cooperation and partnership between both countries (Cambodia & Korea).

H.E. Chhieng Yannara mentioned that the Republic of Korea has maintained a good relationship with Cambodia’s for almost two decades, providing long-term financial and technical cooperation. The support from the Republic of Korea for Cambodia was increased almost double in the last five years. He also raised that the Republic of Korea as one of our major development partners continue to keep its high level of support, as well as the commitment to have at least 40% of its assistance to Cambodia in the form of grants. He also mentioned that South Korea showed its strong commitment in its development cooperation with Cambodia even though Cambodia is now moving from a low-income to a lower-middle income status. Cambodia highly appreciates the good partnership and close cooperation between the two countries, and he would like to express sincere gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Korea and Korean people for providing the invaluable assistance to support the Royal Government’s efforts towards achieving its socio-economic development goals and poverty reduction.

For his part, H.E. Choi Sungho said that Cambodia is important partner country. Cambodia ranked 3rd large recipient country which receives grant aid from KOICA. Therefore, KOICA has been a proud partner of the Cambodian government and the Cambodian people for the last two decades. He also expressed his appreciation for the existing cooperation between KOICA and Cambodia, and informed H.E. Chhieng Yannara that KOICA pledged to do its best to push for the implementation of more new projects for Cambodia.

Finally, H.E. Chhieng Yannara expressed his sincere appreciations to the government of the Republic of Korea and its people, first for their generosity and support extended so far for the sake of Cambodia’s development. In particular, he also highly commented on the tangible evidence of the support through the recent openings of the Saemaul Undong Training Centre; the first Civil Aviation Training Center; and the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Eye Center. And, second, for the Republic of Korea’s contributions and leadership in the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation initiatives which have provided a unique, multi-stakeholder platform to advance the effectiveness of development efforts by all actors.
