Signing Ceremony of the “Project of Capacity Building of Ears Nose Throat (ENT) Center in Preah Ang Duong Hospital”

Phnom Penh, November 27, 2017: The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) launched the signing ceremony on Record of Discussions of “Project of Capacity Building of Ears Nose Throat (ENT) Center in Preah Ang Duong Hospital” on Nov. 27, 2017 at Ministry of Health. The Record of Discussions was signed by Mr. Jeong Yun Gil, Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office and H.E. Prof. Mam Bunheng, Minister of MoH.

This project is supported by the Republic of Korea via KOICA Cambodia office, under grant aids of 8 million dollars with implementation period from 2018 to 2021. A 5-story building will be constructed in Preah Ang Duong hospital and installed with advance equipment for diagnosis, treatment and operation, to help improve medical service of hospital. Besides upgrading physical infrastructure, the capacity of specialist doctors and staff will be advanced via provision of in-service training program and transferring advanced knowledge and sharing experience from Korean doctors.

Mr. Jeong Yun Gil, Country Director of KOICA Cambodia office, mentioned that the signing of this Record of Discussions will formally establish a new road map to overcome obstacles and problems of hospital. This is a new cooperation project between KOICA and MoH since the Health is one of core priority sector of KOICA Country Partnership Strategy in Cambodia. Beside this new project, KOICA also contributing our efforts in health sector in Cambodia through another projects such Project for Improving the Functions of the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Building at the National Pediatric Hospital, Health Equity and Quality Improvement Program and Development and Early Implementation of a Five-year Roadmap the Global Health Security Agenda.

H.E. Prof. Mam Bunheng highlighted that this project completely align to the ultimate goal of Ministry of Health that aim to improve Cambodian health status and reduce morbidity and mortality from such diseases including ENT diseases. It is one of the projects to strengthen the capacity and availability of the services in Preah Ang Duong Hospital as well as in the area of ENT of all over the country.

Through this project, KOICA believes that Cambodia will have enough capacity to provide advanced treatment on ENT effectively, leading to reduce of the occur of serious ENT diseases.
